Never Ignore an IRS Notice for “Taxes Due” in Your Mailbox
If the IRS determines you owe taxes after you file your tax return, they will send a bill for the amount owed, including penalties and interest. If you ignore the IRS, or forget to pay, the IRS will take action to collect your debt. The collection process is complicated, filled with the potential for missteps and missed critical deadlines. The IRS has 10 years to collect a tax debt. This is not a problem that will “go away”. If you have trouble paying the IRS, you can apply for an Installment Agreement or payment plan. There are other options, like requesting an Offer in Compromise asking to settle unpaid taxes for less than the full amount you owe.
Click HERE to learn what to do when you receive an IRS collection notice to avoid liens and levies. Our accounting team can assist with lien discharge and subordination, Installment Agreements or an Offer in Compromise. We can also advise you as to whether or not you are eligible for the IRS “Fresh Start Initiative” which has just been expanded.
Payroll Fraud and Non-Payment of Payroll Taxes Means Penalties and Prosecution
The IRS is aggressive in their efforts to identify payroll fraud and collect payroll taxes. Willful failure to withhold or to avoid paying payroll taxes can result in severe penalties and even jail time. The IRS is making it difficult to negotiate a long-term installment agreement for unpaid payroll taxes and has rejected Offer-in-Compromise settlements for payroll tax problems.
Click HERE to see who can be held personally liable for unpaid payroll tax and what “Employment Tax Evasion Schemes” clients should avoid like worker mis-classification. We can assist in developing your IRS defense and financial options. If you owe past due employment taxes you risk losing your business and having your assets seized.
